Gift idea for Christmas and beyond: Exhibition catalogue on Bohemian porcelain
If you are still looking for an original Christmas present or have not yet decided what to give yourself or your porcelain friends, Porzellanikon - State Museum for Porcelain has just the thing. Just in time for Christmas and to complement the recently concluded special exhibition "Luxury, Wellness, Porcelain - A Day at the Bohemian Spa", the museum is presenting a magnificent illustrated book with vivid insights into the cultural history of Bohemian porcelain. In German and Czech, the catalogue "From luxury spa souvenir to design object. Bohemian Porcelain of the 19th and 20th Centuries" catalogue presents the development of Czech porcelain production from the founding of the first porcelain manufactories in Bohemia to contemporary designs. "This catalogue is the first German-language publication on Bohemian porcelain. It is a great result of the collaboration with our colleagues from the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen," says Anna Dziwetzki, Director of Porzellanikon.
As the first solo exhibition on Bohemian porcelain in Germany, the special show "Luxury, Wellness, Porcelain - A Day at the Bohemian Spa" took place at Porzellanikon Hohenberg from 1 April to 15 October 2023 and marked the start of a three-part exhibition series. The focus was on the presentation of Bohemian porcelain from the 19th century and, supplemented by a wide range of cultural events and guided tours, was Porzellanikon's contribution to the Bavarian-Czech Friendship Weeks 2023. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen and the Municipal Museum in Karlovy Vary and was conceived as a travelling exhibition. In 2024, the special exhibition will move on to the Czech Republic and will be expanded to include further thematic areas. In the exhibition "Czech Porcelain from Three Centuries", the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague will show the development of Bohemian and Czechoslovak porcelain from its beginnings to the present day in 2024. This will be followed by the exhibition "Czech Porcelain from Three Centuries" at the Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen, with several new chapters on the historical development of porcelain sculptures.
The joint catalogue of these three exhibitions, financially supported by the German-Czech Future Fund, accompanies each individual exhibition. From luxury porcelain for 19th century spa guests to modern exhibits from the workshops, the publication paints a multifaceted portrait of porcelain art in Bohemia and proves to be a great gift for collectors, porcelain enthusiasts and art lovers.
