Annual General Meeting of the "Förderverein Porzellanikon Selb und Hohenberg a.d. Eger e.V." at Porzellanikon Selb
The annual general meeting of the "Förderverein Porzellanikon Selb und Hohenberg a.d. Eger e.V." took place at Porzellanikon Selb on Friday, 20 October 2023. All interested members were first offered a curator's tour of the special exhibition "Toilet & Co. Sanitary ceramics from the outhouse to the high-tech toilet". This time it was a dialogue tour, as Kathleen Klötzer, curator for economic, technical and social history, and Christoph Neeb, curator for technical ceramics, jointly guided visitors through the very successful special exhibition. Using selected exhibits, they entertained the club members with bizarre and amusing information on the cultural history of the toilet. There was also a lot of laughter, as the exhibition is dedicated to the topic of sanitary ceramics in a humorous way.
After the tour for the members, the Annual General Meeting began, which was officially opened by Rosemarie Döhler, Chairwoman of the association. First of all, the chairwoman announced the names of those honoured who have been associated with the association for many years. These were Helmut Resch, Hans Joachim Schellenberger, Jürgen Flögel and Hans Pfeiffer. The chairwoman reported on the latest activities of the museum association. These include, for example, the porcelain shop "Scherbenglück", which opened in March 2023 and in which the association offers donated porcelain for sale. The proceeds from the porcelain sales benefit the museum. The volunteer-run porcelain shop is located in the centre of Selb, is open on Saturdays and attracts many visitors due to its location. The much-loved cabaret series "Live im Porzellanikon", which is organised and supervised by Chairwoman Döhler, is back after a break due to the coronavirus. In addition to providing first-class entertainment for guests, the event also enjoys a good reputation in the artistic scene and continues to be supported by the Friends. The presentation of the cash and audit reports was followed by the discharge of the Board of Directors and then the report by Anna Dziwetzki, Museum Director of Porzellanikon, on the museum events since the last Annual General Meeting. The major special exhibitions include "Klo & Co. Sanitary ceramics from the outhouse to the high-tech toilet" at Porzellanikon Selb and "Luxury, wellness, porcelain - a day at the Bohemian spa" at Porzellanikon Hohenberg a.d. Eger. This was followed by a report on other presentations such as the studio exhibition by the Karlovy Vary porcelain artist Jiří Kožíšek, the newly established presentation of the HGM Collection in the Study Collection and a special exhibition organised by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory in Hungary, in which Porzellanikon took part. This year's special exhibitions at both locations attracted many visitors thanks to a wide range of accompanying programmes such as lectures, guided tours and themed afternoons. Dziwetzki presented new visitor offers and events and announced further projects and plans that will be realised in 2024.
The " Förderverein Porzellanikon Selb und Hohenberg a.d. Eger", founded in 1985, counts nearly 250 members. With their diverse activities, the Friends of the Museum have accompanied the development of the Porzellanikon from its original 300 m² exhibition space to the largest of its kind in Europe with 10,000 m². The association pursues exclusively charitable aims and supports the museum in its expansion, care and maintenance, including exhibitions and publications. In the last reporting year, for example, the association financed the redesign of the study collection at Porzellanikon Hohenberg a.d. Eger and supported the museum in publishing the catalogue for the special exhibition " Unique pieces tell stories. Artistic Meissen 1970-2010" catalogue. For many years now, the association has made it possible for schoolchildren to visit the Porzellanikon by paying part of the bus travel costs for the school classes. Museum Director Dziwetzki thanked the association for its close co-operation and for supporting projects that would not have been possible without its help.
