"Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing" International Museum Day on Sunday, 21.05.2023 from 10-17 hrs
For the 46th time, the International Museum Day will take place on 21 May 2023 - this year under the motto "Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing". Of course, Porzellanikon - State Museum of Porcelain will be there again. There is a lot to experience at both locations and there is plenty on offer for young and old.
At Porzellanikon Hohenberg a. d. Eger, everything revolves around the special exhibition "Luxury, Wellness, Porcelain - A Day at the Bohemian Spa". The guided tour at 11 a.m. takes guests back to everyday spa life in the 19th century. Together with the legendary stagecoach driver Wenzel Wolfert, you can also take a look at the high society of the time. In addition to morning fountain drinking cures and bath treatments, spa guests had plenty of time for leisure activities such as shopping trips to the porcelain manufactories or evening banquets. A special highlight is the costume tour at 2:30 pm. Young and old discoverers will learn about everyday life at the spa, porcelain for fine dining and leisure activities in the 19th century. The special exhibition also offers many hands-on stations: from morning washing to medicinal water spring tasting to photos in costume, everything is included.
At Porzellanikon Selb, guests can learn all about the production of white gold at 10:30 am or 2 pm. Real porcelain makers explain the most important steps in casting, turning or operating the mass mill in live demonstrations. Technology facilitator Christoph Neeb makes the big steam engine purr. At the hands-on stations, children in particular can feel what is important when working with porcelain. At 1 p.m., the tour "Rosenthal - a Myth" explores the creative work of the global brand and shows the legendary product range. The new special exhibition "Toilet & Co. - sanitary ceramics from outhouse to high-tech toilet" is also presented to the guests. Whether it's building your own dream toilet out of building blocks or a diaper-changing contest with different nappy systems, it won't be boring! The guided tour begins at 3 p.m. and there are many interesting and bizarre things to discover between chamber pots and luxury toilets.
For artists, our creative factory will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and invites you to join in. There are no limits to your imagination - depending on your own skills. Unusual sculptures or colourfully decorated pieces of porcelain can be created from shards of glass.
Admission costs 1 € on Sundays, children up to the age of 18 are free and only the cost of the porcelain pieces is charged for the hands-on stations. Europe's largest museum for porcelain is looking forward to celebrating International Museum Day with its guests and showing how diverse a museum can be.
