40 years Porzellanikon Hohenberg a.d. Eger: Series of lectures on the anniversary "25 letters from and about Johanna Hutschenreuther" with museum archivist Dr. Rüdiger Barth.

On Thursday, 28 July 2022, at 7:00 p.m., Porzellanikon - Staatliches Museum für Porzellan, Hohenberg a.d. Eger will continue its 5-part lecture series on the occasion of its 40th anniversary: museum archivist Dr. Rüdiger Barth will read from "25 letters from and about Johanna Hutschenreuther".

"I am as plundered as a mouse," says museum archivist Dr Rüdiger Barth, quoting Johanna Hutschenreuther, wife of porcelain pioneer Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther. The quote comes from one of the letters written by the company's wife, which will be presented and placed in a historical context by Porzellanikon archivist Dr Rüdiger Barth on Thursday 28 July 2022 at 7:00 pm at Porzellanikon Hohenberg. In her letters she describes, among other things, the financial circumstances and tensions within the family. Listeners can look forward to previously unknown details and personal insights into the Hutschenreuther family of manufacturers from Hohenberg a.d. Eger. "It was immediately clear to us that the 25 letters we received in 2017 for the Central Archive for the German Porcelain Industry (ZADP), which is housed at Porzellanikon, contained extraordinary, previously completely unknown background information," says Barth, describing the trove. The letters focus on Johanna Hutschenreuther, mother of nine - facets of her private and business life and how she took over the management of the company together with her eldest son Lorenz after the early death of her husband in 1845. She continued to run the company successfully for 15 years, even through adverse times. In the process, she mastered numerous problems and challenges such as the factory fire in 1848, quality problems in production and the development of new sales markets. Ultimately, it is also about her successor question, which was not decided without tensions - both personal and financial.

The lecture planned for 14 July by Hof city archivist Dr Arnd Kluge "Success without end - The porcelain industry of Upper Franconia up to 1914" will be postponed, a new date will be announced in good time.

The next lectures will take place on 15 September ("Life in the Villa" with Chris-ta Schöffel) and on 15 October ("550 Years of Porcelain Culture: Fürstenberg and Nymphenburg Celebrate Double Anniversary" with Dr. Katharina Hantsch-mann and Dr. Christian Lechelt), both at 7:00 pm.
