Researcher afternoon at Porzellanikon Selb
"Full steam ahead! Experimenting with steam" - that's the title of this year's first Researchers' Afternoon, which will take place on Sunday, 30 January 2022. From 2:30 p.m., there will be a lot of hissing and noise behind the old factory walls of Porzellanikon - Staatliches Museum für Porzellan, at the Selb site, as people experiment with steam power. What is behind the hissing steam, the pounding pistons and the turning wheels? These and other interesting questions can be answered by young and old researchers on this afternoon. To illustrate the connections, the museum team will fire up the well-maintained factory steam engine and demonstrate to the curious participants how heat and water are turned into movement that can supply an entire factory with energy. Models are used to examine the path steam takes from the boiler to the chimney. Afterwards, the visitors can assemble a steam engine themselves in small groups and put it into operation.
The research afternoon lasts approx. 2.5 hours and is suitable for children aged 6 and over. The cost of materials is 3 euros; adults pay an additional 1 euro Sunday admission. Registration is required at besuchercenter(at)porzellanikon.org or by phone on +49 9287 918000. Further information at www.porzellanikon.org
