Follow-up report - Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding

On Friday, 24 September 2021, in the presence of the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Munich, Kristina Larischová, and the District President of Upper Franconia, Heidrun Piwernetz, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Porzellanikon - State Museum of Porcelain and the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague at Porzellanikon Hohenberg a.d. Eger. In the document, both museums agree to jointly realise the special exhibition "Luxury, Wellness, High Society - Porcelain from Bohemia". It will be the Porzellanikon's contribution to the Bavarian-Czech Friendship Weeks Selb-Asch 2023.

As Anna Dziwetzki, director of the Porzellanikon, emphasised, this is the first large-scale special exhibition on the theme of Bohemian porcelain in Germany. Dziwetzki spoke of a "world premiere" when Bohemian porcelain is made the focus of a special show through distinct storytelling. The special exhibition is being conceived under the auspices of the Porzellanikon by curator Thomas Miltschus together with his Czech colleagues from the Museum of Applied Arts and the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen. The Czech Consul General, Kristina Larischová, described the project as a prime example of cross-border cooperation, wished the two institutions every success and the exhibition an enthusiastic audience. For Heidrun Piwernetz, the District President of Upper Franconia, Porzellanikon is a beacon in Upper Franconia that reaches as far as Prague. She is pleased about the good and trusting cooperation between Bavaria and the Czech Republic and the neighbouring regions. In addition to the special exhibition, the cooperation project also includes a joint marketing project in the form of a small travelling exhibition that will draw attention to the large special exhibition at selected locations in Bavaria and the Czech Republic as a cross-border advertising measure starting in 2022. It is financially supported by the Euregio Egrensis disposition fund from the Objective-ETZ-Programme Bavaria - Czech Republic 2014-2020 of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Another component of the cooperation is a scientific symposium that will take place alongside the special exhibition in order to bring Bohemian porcelain more into the focus of the scientific world. The result of the symposium will be a multilingual symposium anthology. This is intended to provide the basis and impetus for further scientific research on Bohemian porcelain.
