OPEN DAY OF THE MONUMENT
The Porzellanikon - State Museum for Porcelain, Selb, is organizing a guided tour on the occasion of the DAY OF THE OPEN MEMORY to the monument "Porcelain Factory". During a classic museum visit, visitors learn everything about the production of porcelain and marvel at fascinating exhibits in permanent or special exhibitions, from filigree tableware to steam engines weighing tons. The largest exhibit, however, is the building complex itself, which is the focus of attention on this day: The old factory site, which was a busy center of porcelain production until the 1960s, has been largely preserved unchanged and offers an extraordinary backdrop for countless known and hidden stories.
On Sunday, 13.09.2020, at 10:30 and 14:30, visitors will have the opportunity to get to know Porzellanikon from a completely different perspective. Kathleen Klötzer, a research associate and expert on industrial history, will take visitors on a 90-minute time travel through the entire site, showing them places that are normally either closed or hidden. In doing so, she tells about their meanings and backgrounds. How should one imagine the factory in its heyday? How did the transport logistics on the site work and how did the factory develop over the years? The guided tour is a rare opportunity for all those interested in the "Porcelain Factory" architectural monument and a look behind the scenes.
Due to corona restrictions and the associated hygiene measures, we ask you to register at besuchercenter@porzellanikon.org. or by phone +49 9287-91800-0. Admission is free.
